Blind Meg was a family cat, initially sited but blinded early in her life by a boy racer cornering too fast in the road just before reaching our house. A neighbour saw what happened and took her immediately to the local vet, letting us know later. He saved her life.... and the vet saved everything else, except her eyes. However, Meg quickly found her way around the house and garden without her sight, except from the front garden, which was now out of bounds. A few years later we moved and it only took Meg about a week to sus out the new house and back garden, including a bridge over a fish pond. She never once fell in. Her step was slow but steady, her whiskers extremely long (and very useful no doubt) and yes, I'm afraid she did get a little overweight. She was a very affectionate and calm cat and lived to a good age. We still imagine her happily plodding around the house and garden, in search of ever more interesting places.

Chorus.
When old Blind Meg goes out strolling
Dainty feet and belly rolling,
She can tell you just where she had been.
Though her eyes are sightless grey,
Ears, nose and whiskers show the way.
Blind Meg’s world does not need to be seen.

Verse 1
She never knows just who she will meet.
It might be a mouse or a parakeet.
Rhinoceros or bumble bee bzzzzz,
She gives them all a cheery grin,
Has no idea what day she's in.

Verse 2
And if old Blind Meg takes a fall,
Well she just gets up again, that's all.
She never asks "Why does it have to be me?"
She's happy with the deal she's dealt,
Discontent is something she has never, ever, ever ever felt.

Blind Meg was so happy,
Pretty slow, not too snappy.
Blind Meg was just one happy cat.
